FAMU Shooting Today-Lockdown after active shooter reported at Florida Atlantic University

Florida universities were placed on heightened alert Tuesday after reports of an active shooter situation triggered panic and lockdown procedures. Initial social media posts and emergency alerts incorrectly circulated claims linking the incident to Florida A&M University (FAMU), while later reports clarified that law enforcement activity was centered around a separate campus environment and nearby off-campus areas in Florida.

Authorities confirmed that emergency response units were dispatched following reports of possible gunfire in a university zone, prompting immediate lockdown orders, shelter-in-place warnings, and campus evacuations in some buildings. Students and faculty were instructed to remain indoors, lock doors, and avoid windows as police conducted rapid sweeps of the area.

At Florida Atlantic University (FAU), officials emphasized that campus safety protocols were activated out of caution. University police coordinated with local law enforcement to investigate the credibility of the threat. Early indications suggested that no confirmed shooter was immediately located on campus, but authorities continued to secure surrounding areas as a precaution.

Officials stressed that misinformation spread quickly online, with multiple universities mistakenly referenced in breaking posts. Law enforcement agencies urged the public to rely only on verified alerts issued through official campus safety systems.

Students described moments of confusion and fear as alerts were received on mobile phones and campus sirens activated. “We were told to lock the doors and stay away from windows. Nobody knew exactly what was happening,” one student said.

As of the latest updates, no confirmed casualties had been reported in connection with FAU’s campus operations, and investigations remain ongoing. Police have not ruled out additional follow-up actions as they continue to verify reports and review surveillance footage.

University administrators are expected to release a formal statement once the situation is fully assessed. Counseling and emergency support services have been made available to students and staff affected by the lockdown.

Officials continue to urge calm while reminding the public that active investigations are still underway and details may evolve as more verified information becomes available.
